You Are a First-Round Draft Pick!

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. Ephesians 1:3-4

This is opening weekend for football in the USA. It is our first chance to see how all those big paid first-round draft picks can do in the big leagues.

You remember the guys picked last spring by the teams on NFL draft day…

Every year the National Football League has the “NFL draft” officially called the “player selection meeting.” (But nobody calls it that…) Last May, as they do each year, the NFL teams chose eligible college football players to play for their different teams in the league.

Everyone in the pool of talent wants to be a first-round draft pick. The first-round draft picks are the first players chosen by each team. Those who are chosen all make millions of dollars over the course of their first 4 year contract. The 4-year minimum base salaries for all players picked in the draft is over $2 million dollars per player for their contract.

Early round draft picks are much more likely to have their salaries guaranteed for the length of their contract, and they make much more than those chosen later. In 2014 the contract amounts for the first-round draft picks ranged from $6.8 million dollars to over $22 million dollars. Each player picked first also has the added bonus that they will forever have bragging rights that they were a first-round draft pick.

As exciting as this is for each of the players, this is nothing to compare to the reality that YOU are God’s first-round draft pick!

You were chosen for the most important team in the Universe before the foundation of the world. God picked you for God’s eternal team, and He picked you long before there was anything like professional sports. Everyone who believes in Jesus is a first-round draft pick on God’s eternal team. And you start playing as soon as you accept the offer!

Not only that, but since you are a first round draft pick for God’s team your pay is way beyond millions of dollars.

It says in todays verse from Ephesians, it says that in Christ, we have “every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places”

“Every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places” is yours to have every single day! Wow, think about that for a minute! All you need to do is to accept God’s offer to be on the “Jesus team!”

As a member of God’s team you get access to learn and understand the play book for this game of life.  God gives you the ability to play the game of life well – “holy and blameless before him.”

God’s Word, the Bible, is the play book for instruction on how access all the riches that God has given you in Christ Jesus!

Put your trust in Jesus and you instantly become a first-round choice of the Eternal Almighty God and a player on the “Jesus Team.” You  get “every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,” for you now, and you also get the added bonus of eternal bragging rights that you were a first-round draft pick on God’s eternal team.
